Custom Services |
Each of our clients is treated with the special attention to detail it needs and deserves. We work with you to establish a governance process or specialized program that achieves your purpose and meets your expectations. Our work is customized to the needs of the client, after we take the time to thoroughly understand the issues with which you are dealing.
Custom Governance Initiatives:
Some boards and their CEOs may choose to develop a very different approach and process to good governance, separate and distinct from a model. For such boards, we custom-design a process that works for them. This method can be more time-consuming and potentially more costly, but it does allow the board to design for itself a process that meets whatever unique needs it perceives. Our job is to coach, counsel and facilitate the board's work by maintaining focus on the foundation and principles of good governance.
The Fairfax County, VA School Board is an example of such a board. The board recognized the need for a renewed focus on student achievement for the 21st Century, strategic linkages with its owners, clear operational goals, and new accountability from the boardroom to the classroom. It chose to create it own governing system, which it calls "Strategic Governance." There are both advantages and limitations to such choices, but for the board that wants to "do its own thing," we can help make it happen.
Other Custom Services:
-
Custom Training Workshops-
Sometimes, even when things are going well, boards and CEOs realize the need to take steps to maintain that forward momentum. At other times, issues arise among team members that exceed their ability to resolve. These are the times when boards committed to perform at peak levels need experienced consultation. And that's what we bring to the party. You decide the issues and the needs, and we'll work with you to design just the right programs and activities to meet your objectives. We use a wide variety of techniques to help boards meet those objectives, including various leadership, communication, and conflict management exercises.
-
Myers Briggs Type Indicator-
People are different. When these differences show up at the board table, personal behavioral extremes can cause confusion and frustration among members. Why do people behave the way they do? How do I come across to others? To help individuals and groups who wish to better understand themselves and others, we use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, which is widely regarded as the most valid and reliable psychometric instrument for self-inventory of personality type. It is an extremely useful aid in team building and conflict management.
-
Strategic Planning-
We have demystified the strategic planning process. In the final analysis, a plan merely should drive the work of staff toward some common, identified end results or goals, rather than being a burdensome threat or bureaucratic entanglement that becomes its own impediment to improvement.
-
Conflict Management-
Conflict, especially in a group leadership environment, is unavoidable. Some groups understand that reality, and build the skills to help members deal with conflict effectively, maybe even constructively. We take pride in our ability to work with adult learners of different learning styles and rates to help them find their own solutions to prevent conflict from diverting the board's focus from the organization's primary mission.
-
Communication-
Learn how to develop systematic and systemic communication networks--among leaders, internally with employee groups, work teams, between board and staff, as well as externally with targeted audiences and key stakeholders.
Costs:
Other Governance Initiatives and Strategic Planning are priced by project rather than by day. The final costs are determined after careful review of the specific circumstances and the scope of work. Prices for other custom services normally are $4,500 per day, plus expenses.
